Multi-genre festival
Respondents suggested that a multi-genre cultural event, in which diverse cultural actors and artists would work together. It would be a regular major joint project of Central European importance. The festival could become the flagship of cultural life in Trnava after the ECOC.
Meeting participants also suggested:
Everyone has a clear idea in this - we will only be the European Capital of Culture when a broad cultural community is involved in the project. At the same time, we need to improve the cooperation of cultural actors with the city of Trnava not only because of the candidacy or the actual implementation of the ECOC program, if we obtain the title. Regardless of the ECOC, such cooperation is key to raising culture in Trnava.
Discussants consider it important to clearly define the partnership of entities in the joint organization of cultural events There is currently no institutionalized relationship between the entities of the city and the partner institution. The partnership should name not only mutual commitments, benefits, but also limits on the use of know-how invested in a joint project.
According to the participants, for the development of culture, it is necessary for culture to become one of the priorities of the city's development. Part of the solution would be the creation of a separate department of culture at the municipal office. The participants perceive the absence of this department as a symbolic reference to the small importance of culture for self-government.
The participants suggested identifying leaders for each cultural area with whom the city should have a regular dialogue on the needs of cultural actors and the city's support for culture. Here, people came up with a proposal for systematic cooperation in the reconstruction of housing estates and transport infrastructure, which would make it possible to place art in public spaces and buildings in the city. It would be an artistic author's work in architecture and urbanism, not an amateur beautification of the environment.
According to the discussants, the cultivation of public spaces in the city can also take the form of decent public toilets, accessible bicycle infrastructure (eg stands, bicycle pumps) or quality park landscaping to support socialization (eg benches placed opposite each other) and active use of the park.
Work with public space should be approached systematically according to the new public space manual. They should be supported by new regulations that would solve the problem of visual smog caused by e.g. ubiquitous billboards and other billboards.
Public objects and their use for art
It is necessary to increase the volume of funding for culture, even in the form of individual grants. This must include an emphasis on planning and supporting long-term, multi-annual projects. Related to this is the need to identify which events in the city are most important and to ensure their regular funding.
A separate chapter is the importance of financing and development of the city's cultural infrastructure. In addition to the reconstruction of buildings, the municipality should create conditions for the use of public buildings for the benefit of cultural and artistic activities in the full range. Representatives of the cultural community suggest the availability of buildings and premises through the possibility of their long-term lease at non-commercial prices. Premises should be suitably equipped and fully functional. Part of the appropriate conditions would be the promotion of these spaces between the cultural and creative community. It would also help beginners to create a manual that would clearly answer the question of how, what and where to equip when they want to implement art and culture in Trnava and the Trnava region.
